50 Forgiveness Walks (In Progress)

In October 2026, Dr. Kim began a series of 50 Forgiveness Walks. She aims to complete the walks before Jan 11, 2027, the 25th anniversary of becoming an AcuDetox Specialist. 25 years ago, in response to 9/11, she also work with a group of committed peace activists to co-organize the World Peace Walk, a 300-mile walk from the the World Trade Center to the Pentagon.

Why am I on a "forgiveness" walk?

  • Professionally: My practice is changing and I am still seeing clients but weekly now. After nearly 25 years indoors to treat thousands of clients in clinic, I began a walking-based, healing practice outside in nature. I am focusing on the transformative, healing power of forgiveness.
  • Personally: I began the walk as I approached my 50th birthday. My intention is to review the past 50 years of my life and enter my 50's feeling lighter, freer, and healthier.

Why 50 walks? 50 walks is symbolic, one for each year of my life so far.

Why a "forgiveness" walk? To focus on forgiving people, situations, events.

I questioned if I was too busy to do this or if it would be a good idea. I advised myself to focus on my job, patients, family, or find a funner hobby. A part of me said that this walk wouldn't matter. A more trained voice warned me: Forgiveness is a private concern. Don't expose yourself. Maintain professional boundaries. Never show people that you have personal "stuff" to forgive.

I laced up my shoes and started walking anyway. Let's just try it. I tested it by walking with my dog. Fifteen minutes into the first walk, I decided to leave the dog at home for the second walk to focus.

Other than "go on 50 walks while focused on forgiveness", I didn't have a walking route, write scripts, or have a method planned.

Soon questions emerged:

  • What should I do while on 50 forgiveness walks?
  • How do I forgive someone or something? What's the actual method?
  • What is forgiveness? What is it not?
  • Who or what do I need to forgive? Should I make a list?
  • Where do I learn more about forgiveness?
  • When do I know for sure if I've forgiven successfully, or partially?
  • And why should I forgive?

I ordered a stack of books on forgiveness hoping they'd inspire me to walk. They've been unread for several months. I am in the process of figuring out what I know about forgiveness first, in my own way, on my schedule. For now, I am fine not knowing all the answers. I am walking to explore forgiveness and open to sharing the journey.
